Semester 4 Layouts - Tonal Studies

It's almost the end of the semester so here's another little update while I procrastinate.

Here is my big project for Layout this semester.  We were to create two environments of what ever we'd like then using dramatic lighting create a tonal study for mood and story using only the lighting.

These are more conceptual lighting studies as opposed to plotted light sources, focusing on that mood.  For mine I wanted one to be a bit more technical with some architectural elements and the other to be predominately organic because I love drawing organic layouts.

Warm-Up Drawings

I'm finally getting into the habit of warmup drawings this past week.  I know it's terrible that it took me this long, but it was something that was so obvious I didn't think of incorporating it into my daily routine.

Anyways, here's a couple from the past few days, just some fashion doodles and the a Bruce Tim Poison Ivy.

Flash BG - Test piece for El Flamingo

We're currently well on our way with our mini group film this semester, however to get there we had to do a bunch of test concepts.  Soon I'll be able to post my finished layouts but here's a small test piece I did for a little class assignment.

Life Drawing Dump - 2012

Just a bunch of life drawings from Jan-Feb, I'm trying out more colour this semester including watercolours.

Old life drawing post for the new year.

I figured it was about time I posted some few final life drawings from last semester.  I'm hopefully in the process of compiling some sketches too from my cafe sketchbook but we'll see what the rest of the week brings.

All these are 2 minutes up to 7 minutes.

Background Concept

More digital painting!

This one was our background painting, staring from intial concept to final render.  I had a lot of fun with this one because I love exteriors.  Next time though I wanna try something that's a little more graphic, and stylistic than so realistically rendered.

I wanted too with a more "painted" painting focusing my detail and attention on the temple.  The first large image was the file I handed in for class but then after I messed around with the lighting more and got my second version.

The work-in-progress is much the same as my last paintings.  Stared this concept out as a really rough little thumbnail then enlarged it to the size we'd be working for the final.
