I've been busy with work, and I've kinda neglected this thing blog for a bit, (I've mostly been using my tumblr and instagram these days.) But I figured I'd post some sketches I've done.
I'm working on two fairly large projects now so I'll be post more progress of that in the coming weeks.

Mermaid Sketch
Here's another render doodle that I did today. It started as a sketch in my sketchbook from Life Drawing, I just took the pose the model was in and turned her into a mermaid.
Just trying to brush up on my design skills!

More render doodles
Just a simple colour sketch for now, the rest of my life drawings will be posted later on this week but for now I just wanted to post something to go with my revamp in my layout.

Anne of Green Gables
This week's render doodle is a little fan art of Anne of Green Gables for an old coworker of mine who's Mum was involved in a pretty serious car accident. She's going to make a full recovery but it's a long road ahead so he put out a request to fellow artists to make some Anne of Green Gables fan art to decorate her hospital room with.

Phantom of the Opera fan art
More rendering doodles! This time a fan-art from The Phantom of the Opera, Christine Daae, because last week I was listening to it pretty much non-stop. (The Canadian Cast recording though because to me Colm Wilkinson will always be the Phantom.)

Storyboard Project - Concept Art
Working on my storyboard project as a break from all the 3D computer work I did a little concept painting with my characters from my upcoming project.
It was really nice just to paint again! (First time since this summer really.)

TAAFI-Inspiration-Studies
So this weekend I attended the first ever Animation Festival here in Toronto, TAAFI and I must say I was incredibly inspired, especially the panel on Style vs. Design by Marlo Meekins, Nick Cross and John K.
What really caught my attention was Marlo's "Good Artist Pie Chart" in which she uses in her class. It's a simple pie chart broken into thirds, one third is "a study of other artists", another third is "drawing from your imagination" and the other third is "studying from life". I loved this chart so much that I'm implementing it into my weekly studies. So each week I'm going to do a study of each section of that pie chart to keep me drawing/painting.
So far here's the first two thirds of my pie this week, both studies were under 20 minutes to keep my speed up.
The tree trunk was a study of lighting from a photograph I collected off of Google. I only used a solid brush to focus on the colour and visual blending.
And the second small piece is a colour and lighting study from some concept art for the new Disney TV cartoon, Gravity Falls. The colour in that show is fantastic so I know I'm going to be studying it a lot.
Let's hope I can keep this up for the rest of the summer AND into the new school year!

Warm-Up Drawings
I'm finally getting into the habit of warmup drawings this past week. I know it's terrible that it took me this long, but it was something that was so obvious I didn't think of incorporating it into my daily routine.
Anyways, here's a couple from the past few days, just some fashion doodles and the a Bruce Tim Poison Ivy.

Speed Painting Practice
So here's a quick painting (about 40 minutes) I did while my Digital Professor was showing us his online video for caricature painting in photoshop.
I'm going to love this next project, it's so nice to just paint and lose the line work.

Hipster Santa Colours
Now that I actually have time to mess around in photoshop I decided to give my Santa a bit of colour.
Textures used were:
Plaid Swatch from FrabicDomain
Denim swatch from Serenity Health
Background texutre set from Mellowmint
This was simply for fun and to experiment a bit more.

Happy Holidays!
All hipster Santa wants for Christmas is a grande soy cinnamon dolce creme frappuccino, blended with non-fat whip.
I'm gonna colour him hopefully but with all the wrapping and errands I have to do today the skecth will have to due.
I swear there will be more updates once I get scanning some of my sketchbooks from this past semester.
Happy holidays to everyone!
